Molecule 01 contains 100% Iso E Super, a synthetic aroma molecule developed by IFF in 1973. Its smooth, velvety scent interacts with the wearer’s natural odors, creating a personal, evolving signature. Perfumer Geza Schoen describes it as “comforting and cocooning,” expressing “radiance, tenacity, and power.” Known for its intermittent presence, Iso E Super gradually releases from receptors in the olfactory system, causing its scent to fade and reappear over time. Schoen notes, “It combines — almost caramelizes — with your own smell to meld into a personal scent signature.”
Iso E Super is entirely man-made, distinguished by its ability to evoke a subtle, magnetic aura rather than a traditional fragrance profile. Schoen explains, “Molecule 01 is for the individual who might be a bit bored with fragrance and would prefer to radiate an aura. It’s difficult to call a single aroma-chemical a fragrance — it’s so much more personal.” Celebrated as a modern classic, Molecule 01 maintains its disruptive, avant-garde appeal, offering a skin-like, wood-tinged scent described by fragrance expert Helder Suffenplan as “a monochrome canvas from 1913 that promotes indignation in many people, even today, since: ‘Anyone can paint a black square!’ Which may be so — but only Malevich thought to do so.”
